Health and Safety Act
The Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) safeguards workers' three
basic rights:
- the right to know,
- the right to participate, and
- the right to refuse unsafe work.
The Act outlines the duties and responsibilities of employers,
supervisors, workers, and joint health and safety committees
(JHSC), prohibits reprisal by an employer, and provides penalties
for violations of the Act.

Bill 168
An amendment to the Occupational Health and Safety Act with respect to violence and harassment in the workplace. Bill 168 received Royal Assent on December 15, 2009 and will come into force on June 15, 2010.

WHMIS
What is WHMIS?
WHMIS is a short form for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
System. It is a comprehensive plan for providing information on the
safe use of hazardous materials used in Canadian workplaces.
Information is provided by means of product labels, material safety
data sheets (MSDS) and worker education programs.

Ministry of Labour
The Ministry of Labour's mandate is to establish, communicate
and enforce workplace standards in areas such as occupational
health and safety, labour relations and employment rights and
responsibilities.
